Hats off to another Massachusetts schoolkid with a big heart and a great idea. When Fitchburg’s Kira Andreucci was asked what she wanted for her eleventh birthday, she said she wanted to help other kids in her school system who’s families might not be able to put enough food on the table. Her idea was to provide “kidpacks,” small supplies of nonperishable, nutritious foods to help kids get through the weekend with enough to eat. In addition to some birthday money, she put collection jars in local businesses.

With the money she received, she was able to create kidpacks for ten kids. That was in 2011. The project was called Karing 4 Kids, and today it is helping 129 children in the Fitchburg school system.
Kira and her father, John Andreucci, deliver the kidpacks to the school each Friday. They are then distributed to the children by their teachers in nondescript reusable bags so that no one can tell what’s inside and they don’t feel singled out. Kira and her father do not know who the recipients are.
You can help. Karing 4 Kids is affiliated with Blessings in a Backpack, a 501(c)3 organization, so cash contributions are tax deductible. Donations in any amount are welcome. A contribution of $100 will sponsor a child for an entire 38-week school year.
