The Duxbury Senior Center / Duxbury Council on Aging offer many programs to assist seniors.
Services relating to emergency financial, nutrition and transportation are outlined below. For complete information, contact the Senior Center/Council on Aging or review the Duxbury_COA_guide.
Meals are served at Café Ellison at the Senior Center Monday through Thursday from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Our fare is varied, nutritional and prepared on-site by our Food Service Manager and Kitchen Assistant. What makes the Duxbury Senior Center dining experience unique is that our meals are cooked fresh daily and served restaurant style by a dedicated and friendly group of volunteers. Lunch is reasonably priced, and the menu selection can be found in Duxbury Doings, our newsletter. The menu is also available on the Town of Duxbury website. Home Delivered Meals
The Home Delivered Meals Program provides one hot meal per day, Monday through Friday, with an option to receive frozen meals for the weekends. These meals are for a family member or friend who is recovering from surgery/illness, disabled, unable to prepare home cooked meals or for homebound individuals. Home delivered meals are reasonably priced. We also offer a reduced fee for those who qualify. For more information, contact our Home Delivered Meals Organizer at 781-934-5774 x 116.

If you are in need of groceries and supplies, call the Outreach Department for a current listing of food pantries and other resources at ext. 105 or 106.
Emergency Assistance & Holiday Food Baskets
The Duxbury Interfaith Council provides Emergency Assistance to Duxbury residents needing help with food, fuel or other basic needs. The Duxbury Interfaith Council also provides Holiday Baskets to those in need at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Interfaith Council also offers a school supplies and a campership program to children of families in need. Contact the Duxbury Interfaith Council Outreach at (781) 934-8388.
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
Food Assistance Program, formerly known as Food Stamps. Call the Outreach Department at ext. 105 or 106 for application information or contact SNAP at the Plymouth Department of Transitional Assistance at 508-732-3100.
SHINE (Serving the Health Information Needs of Elderly)
A SHINE Counselor is available to assist seniors with Medicare health plan selection. Call the Senior Center at ext. 104 to schedule an appointment There is no fee for this service.
The Duxbury Council on Aging provides transportation for seniors and persons with disabilities on our buses. This service provides rides to the Senior Center for daily luncheons, monthly breakfasts and various programs and activities. The bus also takes people shopping, to the post office and bank, and other stops around town. The bus is also used for field trips and Supper Club trips at various locations. Please contact our Front Desk staff (ext. 100 or press 0) to make a reservation. This service requires at least 48 hour advance notice.
Seniors or persons with disabilities needing rides to medical appointments should contact our Medical Transportation Coordinator at ext. 117. Most medical appointments are to local and surrounding towns, Jordan Hospital, South Shore Hospital, and occasionally to Boston hospitals. This service requires at least 48 hour advance notice for scheduling.
Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transit Authority (GATRA)
GATRA offers public transportation daily along Rte. 3A in Duxbury and from Kingston to Marshfield. Boston Hospital Bus Service is also offered for a fee. Contact the Senior Center, Medical Transportation Coordinator at ext. 117 for information or GATRA at 508-732-2010.
American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society provides medical appointment transportation for persons receiving cancer treatments. Call 508-897-4300.
Other Assistance Programs
This program offers low-income individuals the ability to obtain fuel assistance. The Senior Center offers assistance to seniors age 60 plus in completing and submitting applications to South Shore Community Action Council. For more information on this program, call our Outreach staff at ext. 106 or contact South Shore Community Action Council at (508) 746-6707.
Duxbury Interfaith Council (DIC)
The Duxbury Interfaith Council provides emergency financial assistance to residents of Duxbury. Contact the DIC Outreach Program at 781-934-8388.
The Town of Duxbury King Caesar Fund
The King Caesar Fund provides assistance to financially-needy citizens of Duxbury who are unable to pay for medical expenses and have exhausted all other possible resources. Requests for financial assistance to this fund can be made by contacting the King Caesar Staff Liaison in the Selectmen’s office at 781-934-1100 ext. 149.
