The Coalition began in 1985 as a result of a group of concerned citizens responding to families living in their cars or the state forest. The group raised support and opened the first shelter in a rented farmhouse in Halifax in May of 1987. A generous donation of land, building services and materials enabled the Coalition to custom build a facility in Kingston to accommodate ten families at a time for shelter. This facility also includes an office, child care room, food pantry, Santa’s Workshop and the F.A.I.R. (thrift shop) Program.

Food Pantry Program
Food boxes are distributed to the needy in the community. The food boxes contain perishable and non-perishable food items most of which is donated to the Coalition from individuals, church, and civic groups in our community. In addition we receive support from Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger, Pepperidge Farm, BJ
