World Homeless Day: Local in Massachusetts

On October 10th, groups across the globe will mark World Homeless Day. The Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless is partnering with State Representative Jim O’Day to sponsor a World Homeless Day event here in Massachusetts, targeted to legislators and aides. The coalition will be holding a legislative briefing that day at the State House in the House Members’ Lounge from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Please help in making sure legislators and aides participate.  Please click through and forward this World Homeless Day event flyer to your legislators, asking them to RSVP to the Coalition and come to the briefing.

The briefing will highlight a range of current issues related to housing and homelessness in the Commonwealth, such as:

  • The urgent need to pass House Bill 135, An Act providing housing & support services to unaccompanied homeless youth, this session
  • The ongoing work of the Special Commission on Unaccompanied Homeless Youth and the results of the 2014 statewide unaccompanied youth count
  • The impact of FY’15 investments in key housing and homelessness programs, including the Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program (MRVP), the Emergency Assistance (EA) family shelter program, and Residential Assistance for Families in Transition (RAFT)
  • Next steps: Budget language and funding needed to strengthen the state’s response to homelessness, housing instability, and poverty in the year ahead

If you need help in determining who your legislators are, follow this link or contact Kelly Turley at the Coalition: kelly@mahomeless.org or 781-595-7570 x17.

If you would like to attend, too, there will be limited space for members and allies. Please RSVP here.
